205 Pages Organized in five Parts: GENERAL CONCEPTS, BUDDHIST PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE, ESSENCE OF THE LOTUS SUTRA, HISTORY OF BUDDHISM, PRINCIPLES FOR PRACTICE. Many people have heard of the first historical Buddha, Shakyamuni, but are unaware of his early teachings(sutra's) versus his later teachings and all the migration and evolution of Buddhism in the following centuries. Nichiren Daishonin, Japan 1222-1282, opened Buddhism to all people, particularly women and low-caste persons by revealing Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo as the law of life and the universe. This book successfully sumarizes these facts. It's strong point is it's organization into focused paragraphs answering specific questions ie: "God and Buddha", "A comparison between Christianity and Buddhism", "The Gohonzon", and terms like "the Ten Worlds". Sometimes these paragraphs are so focused as to leave the reader wishing for a deeper treatment of a subject. Page 179, offers "Three Proofs" as an objective way to read this book and any others for those making comparative studies of religion. Long-time members of the Soka Gakkai International (a Buddhist lay organization) will appreciate refreshing terms and relationships that they may not have studied for a long time. The newcomer can be assured of having enough information to be confident to ask further questions.
