First, I am a bit biased, as I have known Quitze Rose since she was around 4, when I showed her how to meow like a cat. I've seen her once a year since then, at a large reunion. She is such an incredible girl, I know there's hope for the future with young people like her. I gave her a small gift I had made. And a short while later, she gave me this book, autographed by both her and the author, Dorothy Blackcrow Mack. I got home late last night, and just had time to read the story today. What a touching beautiful tale that warms the heart. This book would appeal to not only Christians, but also anyone else who believes in kindness and compassion and teaching children these gifts. I know it's a children's story, but it touched my heart just as much. So I just ordered another copy for my grandchildren. My review of the story itself is not biased, as I knew nothing about Mrs. Mack before I read the book. But as for Quitze's illustrations, they are excellent, as she manages to capture the meaning of the book superbly. No adult could capture this story as well as she can. It's as if Wichoni, the girl in the story, is illustrating it herself. Quitze has so much talent as a young artist. I hope this pair will make more books for us to enjoy.
A story for all ages

This delightful book illustrates Christian values from what seems a genuinely different cultural perspective. I love the trio of heros, especially Wichoni. The drawings combine simplicity and drama. I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading it to my grandson.

This story brought tears to my eyes. Powerful yet simple, this non-traditional Christmas tale has a depth of spirituality that will inspire young and old. Beautifully written, encouraging sacrifice and cultural rapprochement, this story of a Native American girl on her spiritual quest will move and delight readers of all ages.
