I read this many years ago as a young boy in the late 60s. The memory of the story has remained with me. The boy from another world lost in ours. His mental powers--common to people on his side of the "door." Strange clothes. And above all to me his gentleness along with courage. This was the first story I ever read that showed it was OK for a boy to be gentle as well as brave. Rereading it as an adult over 40 years later I found other broken stereotypes casually strewn among the turns in the this wonderfully told story. Not too bad. A book you can read at 7 and then 57 and be impressed by.
