Explains the role of the newly independent United States in putting an end to the trade in European and American slaves.Everybody knows about the transatlantic slave trade, which saw black Africans... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Anyone wishing to delve into a very known and well accounted for history of slavery on the Barbary Coast would do well so seek more scholarly and interesting books on the subject. Simon seems very concerned with the slaving of certain people than he is with slavery in general and his book reads as a love letter to the fallen empire that was great britain. At any rate, I would recommend any reader to avoid hack writers with nationalistic pride dealing with history and culture. If Simon had a better editor and publisher, he may have been able to offer a compelling (though thoroughly subjective) account of the slaving of white people by arab slavers for over 241 years. Comes off as a poor attempt to legitimize himself as an author. I hope this helps.
