Moroccan forests are subject to multiple and intense social and natural pressures. Managing forest areas in all their multifunctionality requires the adoption of a territorial governance system based on a participatory sustainable development process that addresses economic and social issues alongside and in line with environmental priorities. Leveraging knowledge about the evolution of forest areas with a view to improving the sustainable management process leads to seeking, within the multifunctionality of rural areas and activities, the reorganization of territorial space by the actors concerned through forms of governance, integration, and decentralization of powers. It is at the level of the forest territory, whose delimitation and control translate into the exercise of power, that it will be relevant to approach territorial governance as a decision-making process in which the stakeholders involved participate, alongside the rural communities living on and from this territory. This approach fits perfectly within the concept of sustainable management of forest ecosystems.
