The F.O.L.D.

The F.O.L.D. is a near-futuristic tale following a progressive liberal response to an ever-increasing populist world bent on revisionist history. The controversial plan, dubbed WITHERING VINE, is one of seclusion, based on an obscure isolationist theory that, along with one independent and a few Union committee members, has gathered support among forward-thinking, liberal elites. Scandinavian countries, anxious about the alarming pace of disinformation, revisionist history, and the growing pursuit of science and technology for nefarious means, form in 7/20/2037 the Nordic Union, which will link all future trade and transfer of intellectual property to a freedom index of their own design. Within 3 years, the Nordic Union receives a mandate to form a steering committee with plans on expansion. Canada, the Nordic Unions' first preference, champions an even bolder strategy for unification, one of isolated inclusion. A response viewed primarily through the eyes of two characters, one of these elites and the lone independent committee member is CHARLIE BROADCHICK, a 35-year-old Canadian/ American dual citizen entrepreneur, who through his well-established philanthropic organization, the Foundation for Liberal Democracy (FFLD), has fostered the Vine theory from dissertation. On 04/16/2040, an attack disrupts the first Nordic Union expansion committee luncheon in Copenhagen. If not for the actions of a 6'1" 33-year-old attendee, STAFF SERGEANT HABAB, a Broadchick aide and former Khyber Rifle drill instructor, committee talks with Canada/Quebec may not have successfully concluded with a tentative agreement. On that conference's conclusion, as interest shifts towards the possible addition of the British Isles; Canada and the Nordic Union solicit the arms-length aid of Broadchick's FFLD in battling and suppressing what they consider their chief obstacle in winning over skeptical democratic nations moving forward, the spread of disinformation and propaganda within those countries. By early 2041 initial operational success in curbing disinformation is achieved before going off the rails in mid-July, wherein around New York state, a pair of Broadchick operatives take matters into their own hands, eliminating 13 unsanctioned names. On 12/15, 2044, a historic speech is given inside the U.N. General Assembly by the Nordic Union's Prime minister and soon to be head of a new Federation. The speech, which at first praises some past accomplishments of the U.N., soon turns to an extensive list of its shortcomings. In ending her speech, she announces the 14 members, Canada, Denmark, England, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Norway, Quebec, Scotland, Sweden, Republic of Ireland, and Wales, that will initially make up FOLD, The Federation Of Liberal Democracy.
