In the port of Dunkerque, a body is found in the fog.
At first, nothing seems to distinguish the case from an ordinary settling of scores... until a mysterious metal token engraved C-47 is discovered near the victim.
Assigned to the investigation, Inspector Gabriel Delcourt quickly realizes that the murder is connected to a forgotten case dating back to 1989-a case that was closed long ago, and whose key elements appear to have been deliberately erased.
As Gabriel follows the trail, he discovers the existence of the Red Lighthouse, a place linked to a mysterious operation involving six men and a clandestine system whose influence may still be active.
But the further Gabriel goes, the more disturbing the investigation becomes.
Files appear and disappear.
Computer systems are accessed using his identity.
Decisions seem to have been made before he even makes them.
And above all, an unknown voice begins contacting him.
Someone knows his movements.
Someone knows his decisions.
Someone seems to know his past better than he does.
In the fog surrounding the Dunkerque coastline, Gabriel is forced to confront a truth he could never have imagined:
Some cases are never truly closed. They are simply waiting to be reactivated.
Blending police investigation, buried secrets, manipulation, and memory, The Fog of the Dunes takes the reader into a mystery where every discovery calls the previous one into question.
And when Gabriel finally understands what lies behind the Red Lighthouse, he realizes something terrifying:
He may not be the man investigating this story.
He may have been part of it from the very beginning.
