A Student's Perspective: The Flute Manual

I decided to start playing the flute a little later than most of my friends, so I had a lot of catching up to do. My private instructor recommended me reading 'The Flute Manual', stating that it would give me enough information to help me understand more quickly and assist me in moving at a faster pace. I followed his advice and found that the information in this book enabled me not only to understand the basic principles of flute performance, but equally important, gave me the tools in which to succeed. I recommend this book to anyone who has a sincere and genuine desire to learn to play the flute.

A TRUE BEST FRIEND!

I recently found myself in the position of student teaching at a public high school. I soon found out that I needed some help in developing ways to present and teach numerous flute concepts,i.e., vibrato, tonguing, embouchure, etc.A friend recommended that I read and use THE FLUTE MANUAL ... and ... I am so glad that I followed his advice. It soon became my best friend. It was not long before I could present and teach flute concepts in a clear and precise manner. My confidence grew rapidly and I soon felt very comfortable in my new role of teacher.

The Life Saver ... absolutely the most helpful ....

Last year, I found myself, as an oboe player, in the position of having to learn the flute as a second instrument. With so much flute information available, I easily became confused about how to approach my studies.With the overwhelming amount of information out there, I easily became discouraged and confused. However, just as I was about to give up ... I came across this text 'The Flute Manual' ... which I prefer to call 'The Life Saver' ... because it contained in only one volume all the information I needed ... plus it was presented in a clear and conside manner with examples and explanations that made it much easier for me to learn the proper way to play the flute.As a result, I find this text helpful,, not only for the flute player and teacher, but also, for the doubler who must be able to play more than one instrument.So if there are any other doublers out there who need to play the flute as a second instrument, I strongly suggest that you read it ... and ... I am sure you will agree!

Outstanding Flute Book!

Wow, what a pleasant surprise to discover how thorough and excellent this book is. Throughout my 25 years as a flute instructor, I have not found such a complete resource book written for the flute as this text, The Flute Manual. It is so wonderful to be able to find not only sections on how to become a better performer, but also, sections on how to become a better educator. I highly recommend it!

Excellent and Essential

This is one of the most complete manuals on the art of flute playing I have read in a long time. It has content that is not only hard to find, but to be able to locate it in a single volume has helped me become both a better teacher and performer. It is mandatory reading for all my private students. They too have found it extremely informative and valuable. I really like the sections on vibrato, fourth octave fingerings, and how to select an instrument. I will be using this book for a long time.
