The Flicker In The Crypt: A Curator's Lantern Mystery (Book 1)

By Rowan J Harcourt

When the lanterns of York's Lantern Festival cast their glow over the ancient cathedral, no one expects the celebration to end in tragedy. But when the body of historian Dr. Alastair Carroway is discovered in the crypt, whispers of scandal begin to rise as quickly as the winter mist.

Dr. Nathaniel Harcourt, once a professor and now curator of the Lantern & Illumination Museum, had hoped for a quiet life among archives and artifacts. Instead, he finds himself pulled into a mystery where the shadows of the past refuse to stay buried. With the cathedral's history pressing in on the present, and the strange flicker of lantern light hinting at truths others cannot see, Nate must follow the trail of secrets before darkness falls again.

Joined by his spirited assistant Lucy, bookshop owner Abigail Trent, and a skeptical detective who would rather trust logic than ghostly whispers, Nate uncovers rivalries, blackmail, and a hidden scandal dating back two centuries. But someone in York will stop at nothing to keep the past from being revealed-even if it means murder.

Perfect for fans of cozy paranormal mysteries, haunted histories, and atmospheric English settings, The Flicker in the Crypt introduces a reluctant sleuth whose lantern may shine light on more than just the past.
