The Five Fosters is a collection of childhood memories of five children of a Texas cowboy and ranch life as it was back in the thirties, forties and early fifties when clothes were washed on the rub board, people used outhouses and had no indoor plumbing. Most of the book is about the Wolf Place on Boquillas Land and Cattle Company located in southeastern Cochise County, Arizona. In the fifties they saw the end of an era - the demise of the cowboy and his way of life. This was brought about mostly by the eradication of the screw worm, modernization and drought. The team of mules were replaced by the pickup truck and horse trailer. Families moved into town for the modern conveniences. A truly great way of life was gone. The Wolf Place has been renamed the San Pedro House and is now owned and managed by the Bureau of Land Managemetn and is open to the public. fifty photos - 239 pages
