Anna Hathaway Mandler, a poet, wife and mother, born on the enchanted Gull Island, is blessed by the ancients with the gift of second sight. Not only can Anna see ghost and shades, but she also has the mystical ability to see through the veils that separate the two worlds of heaven and earth, and of life and death. It is between these veils of twilight mist, that Anna, when she is two years old, meets her guardian spirit, Rainbow Crow.

But now, Anna's journey back to reclaim her gifts from the ancestors begins.
After a near drowning accident, Anna's only son slips into a coma. She hears him crying to her from a hospital room miles away. Anna believes he is trapped in the twilight mist, caught between life and death, like a moth between two panes of glass. To bring Jimmy home, she must travel through those veils separating the two worlds.
But will her gifts from the island's ancestors and the love of her guardian spirit, Rainbow Crow, be strong enough to save her son?
