Many of the myths of this group were collected and written down by an anthropologist named Roland B. Dixon. The Achomawi were one of the tribes of Native Americans who lived in northern California. They lived near the Pit River, in the Fall River Valley, and in the Goose Lake area on the Oregon state line. Their name, Achomawi, translates to "River People."
