This newly repackaged third book in the Johnstone classic The First Mountain Man series finds Preacher leading a wagon train through the remote Rocky Mountains when he is attacked by a gang of cutthroats. But Preacher's determined to lead his band of settlers safely through Indian territory--and fight these wild avengers to the death.
This is one of the best Wm W. Johnston's books ever! The main character, of course, is Preacher, a mountain man. In this story he leads a wagon train of women over the trail. They all have husbands promised to them when they cross the mountains. The women learn how to survive, weather, Indian attaches, marauders and other trials. The women characters are strongly written and I was delighted to read the outcome of the story. Johnston writes descriptively on the environment and the rugged times of the day. I've read almost all of this series and it's an excellent way to spend some time.
