Twice Burned...

Julian Palmer and Pandora Cooper are more alike than they could ever imagine. He is the victim of a shrewd, manipulative opportunist and she is the victim of a domineering, verbally abusive husband. Both have problems relating to the opposite sex. Julian is a womanizing gentleman, he treats women with much respect; he just does not want a commitment. After his fiancée acquired his expertise, contacts, and finances she ended the engagement and walked away. Driven by his disdain for that near union, he took a struggling family business and evolved it into something of power. Several company takeovers have left him a financially stable, workaholic. When he puts plans in motion to acquire Pandora's companies, he realizes he may have met his match, and in more than the corporate arena. Pandora, a gifted child protégée, graduated college by the time she was nineteen and married a man fifteen years her senior. Naive and unsuspecting she was in too deep before she realized she didn't have a husband, she had a father. She finally distanced herself from his mental bashes and from that point her life has been all work. Known as The Black Widow of Wall street, she has no time, no need and no desire for a permanent man in her life, her daughter is her only emotional outlet. But Pandora has alienated her husband's family and her emotions are tested in an unprecedented way, and then there is Julian! THE FIRES WITHIN is a warm candid story of how people, who seclude their emotions from a certain normalcy, can still be burned by the fire. Ms. Clarke takes the misplaced feelings of Julian and Pandora to an esoteric level. They must learn how to trust each other, and come together to outwit a formidable rival. Let the fires burn...

Clark delivers a hard hitting novel that has you so engrossed; it gets hard to put down. The characters are well developed and consistent as this fast paced novel maneuvers you from one scene to anticipating the next. Pandora Cooper is a successful business woman that is dubbed the "Black Widow of Wall Street" based on her cunning ability to out maneuver her male counterparts and strip them of their companies. Julian Palmer is a corporate investor that takes an interest in Pandora and her company. After his initial research on the company and woman, he's totally obsessed with getting her into a relationship, even though they both consider matters of the heart tabu. Pandora and Julian merge so to speak as a couple with the help of Pandora's daughter, but their happiness is in jeopardy as a vengeful business and family member conspire to destroy Pandora, her family and her company.
