As a United Methodist Pastor, I have heard some good preachers, having heard R. Maurice Boyd twice now, I feel he is one of the best. This book gives a wonderful taste of what his preaching is like; it will make you think in more ways than one.
A testimony to mystery in a world of technology

The Rev. Boyd does an excellent job of exposing the fallacies in so much of our language and our current attitudes. With a marvelous collection of quotes from poets, artists and musicans, he makes the case that there is more to the life of faith than we are so often led to believe. Within the course of the 21 talks, he does repeat a number of his quotes and uses his illustrations over and over again, but they are so good that one does not mind much. In these messages he is much more accomplished in making the case for the existence of the mystery beyond our control than he is in making us Christian or Jewish or urging us to take a stand in any particular faith community. This is a refreshing collection of messages. He has many of the gifts which marked the writings of the late George Buttricks.

A wonderful collection of short broadcast messages which make you think. One come away from a Boyd reading (or sermon, for that matter) with a sense of awe. For those of you tired of The Power of Positive Thinking, Boyd is a welcome sight!
