The riveting story of the fourth century actor whose stunning conversion transformed him from an on-stage mocker of the Christians to one of the faith's great saints. An exciting epic that will appeal... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This novel is up there with Frank Peretti and LaHaye and Jenkins. It is a completely different genre than the aforementioned authors... however, Justice's literary style is equally as brilliant. Okay, I'm not gonna try to sound like a scholar --- let me just say this as simple as possible. As you're reading the pages of this book, you feel as if you are placed in the 4th century and are living out the persecution right there alongside Genesius. You are brought into the mind of Genesius and then into the mind of the emperor Diocletian --- your heart beating and your palms sweating (okay maybe not that severe) But you totally understand their frustration and fear... but over all that, you see the hand of God working out His plan to reach even the hardest of hearts overseeing the Roman Empire. I didn't know a dang thing about 300 A.D. and the "tetrarchy", but as I read the book and was placed there... it all was so clear and made total sense. I seriously could not put that book down, and it's not because it's a "dick & Jane" book. It's a brilliant piece of literature. I keep two books by my bedside: The Great Gatsby and The Final Bow. If you don't happen to be a Christian, and are reading this... don't let the fact that this book is about Christians stop you from reading it. Your mind will forever be reshaped as to how you view "Christianity". The only reason this book is not a best seller is most likely the marketer's fault. It's of no fault of the author and anyone reading this book would agree.

The Final Bow by Alan David Justice is the story of Genesius, an actor in the 4th century. This was a time period in history when it was extremely dangerous to be a Christian. Genesius was just an actor chosen to mock Christianity in absurd plays. But then the emperor enlists his services to spy on the Christians and identify the true believers. Thinking that Christians are a threat to the peace of the Roman empire, he goes about his task wholeheartedly. But each time Genesius hears the story of "the Christians", he becomes more convinced of it's accuracy. Finally, He meets Jesus and is won over to the truth. Knowing his place is with the emperor, he returns to the man who hates Christians, hoping to get a chance to tell him about the one true King. Once again, he takes place in a drama, written by Genesius himself, and intended to cause people to laugh at Christianity. This time, however, he takes a stand. Before the major powers of the world, he pronounces himself a Christian, knowing this stand would either change the course of history or end in his death. He died a martyr that day. But his testimony changed the life of the emperor and many others. He choose eternal life over living a lie for the short time he was here. This book challenges us to be bold in our faith and to stand firm knowing that our reward in heaven is far greater than anything we could gain here by silence and denial of the truth
