The Trend is Relativism

"The Fight of Your Life" is an insightful look at the issues faced by today's teens with strategies for parents to both discuss and deal with threats to their child's body, mind, and soul. Jeffrey covers issues varying from premarital sex, pornography, dating, internet usage, friends, drugs/alcohol, and self injury. This common sense approach to teen struggles brings out of the darkness, issues, that parents may not have been faced with before. "Sixty years ago there were prescribed social norms of morality. Today the trend is relativism", "The Fight of Your Life" is a convicting approach to how to reach an ever-changing youth culture with the unchanging truths of the gospel. Jeffrey takes an aggressive stance on pornography, encouraging parents to remain aware of their child's browsing habits. He goes to great lengths to demonstrate the wide spread affects of pornography, giving specific statistics regarding the age at which most teens encounter sexually explicit content, "One study showed that a whopping 90 percent of all eight to sixteen year olds had viewed pornography online - most inadvertently while doing homework." He encourages dialog between parent and child about sex, and what a healthy relationship can look like. He states, "Your teen needs to see you as safe. Your teen needs to know that if he or she comes to you with any question or any concerns you will talk with them about what's truly going on[...]your son or daughter needs to hear from you consistently that you expect him or her to wait until marriage to have sex" The Fight of Your Life does not draw a line for parents to superintend over their teens, rather, it gives them a mindset, a vision for their teens to pursue, "The word virgin can inadvertently become an escape word for teens, one that gives them a false sense of appropriateness in their behavior. There are many physical acts that a teen can do on dates without going "all the way" or losing his or her "virginity" that can be just as damaging spiritually, physically, and emotionally". In a society constantly inundated with sexual content, Jeffrey encourages parents not to shy away from the "talk" with their teen, but to approach it through several "talks". As he clearly reminds parents, if they don't hear it from you, who will they hear it from? The single most important message that Jeffrey encourages parents to pursue is a message of purity for their teen, that to remain mentally and emotionally pure is equally as important and twice as difficult. It is time that parents approach taboo with tact and tenacity, fighting on behalf of their children, the fight of their life. [...]
