This paper provides an overview of the Orthodox Church's understanding of the Fifth Commandment, which concerns relationships within the family. Particular attention is paid to the Bible and the teachings of the Church Fathers. Modern perspectives on family relationships are presented within their historical context and examined through the lens of the Fifth Commandment. Special attention is given to families in the diaspora. Orthodox religious education provides religious education teachers with the opportunity to present the ideal of family relationships to children. As a result of this thesis, the challenges facing religious education teachers are highlighted, and concrete suggestions are made for lesson planning that can help explain the topic of family relationships to children.
