Sometimes while walking along the beach, you may see a small crab with a very big claw pop up out of a small hole. You have just seen a fiddler crab. They dig burrows in the sand in some beaches. Only the males have the large claw, which they use for eating,
signaling and fighting. They also wave it at lady crabs to get her attention and it looks like they are playing a fiddle. The best thing about that big claw is that if they break it o, they can grow a new one. Fiddler crabs live in parts of the world that are warm or hot and tropical, including some US beaches.
