The Festival

Christmas time in Igboland of Nigeria is culturally completely different from that of the USA. This book explores this cultural dichotomy through the eyes of a young boy who traveled from the USA to his ancestral homeland with his parents and siblings. Christmas period in his homeland is super fun. It is packed with many festivals, cultural events, and even masquerading. The boy had so much fun. He even performed the customary right-of-passage from boyhood to manhood during this visit. Toward the end of the visit, after comparing his life in the village to his American life, he refused to return to America with his parents. It took the intervention of his kinsmen and the love he has for his mother to convince him to reluctantly accompany them back.

Finally, the book also explores the cultural predicaments of Igbo (Nigerian) families who live in the USA. These predicaments exist in their traditional marriages, burials, and much more.
