"The Ferryboat from Flam" is a travel book for young readers. The author describes a popular side trip often taken by train passengers from Oslo to Bergen, Norway. It includes a short train ride down to Flam, a village on the banks of the fjord then the daily round trip on the ferryboat as it delivers mail, cars, trucks, packages and passengers to towns up and down the fjord. The reader will learn something of the geography of Norway and meet two children who live in such a remote section that they take two trains and two boats just to shop for clothes. The author suggests that this book should be included in Social Studies libraries for third through fifth grades.
