Learning to flow and grow by clearing out the clutter

What caught my attention was not the mad fad term "feng shui," but the word "unclutter." I live in clutter, the residual of a failed cluttered marriage with a major clutter collector. According to writers Antonia Beattie and Rosemary Stevens, "the more you let go of the past, the easier it is to attract new opportunities and positive energy now" (10). Clutter holds you back, they write. If what surrounds you is no long a reflection of who you are, get rid of it. So time to unclutter. The writers use feng shui (wind moving as water) as a raison d'etre to remove the clutter to free energy to flow positively. Clutter causes stagnation of time, energy, and effort. They go on to explain basic feng shui terms and principles, including charts for visual comprehension. On page 19 is a chart I'm going to copy and re-name The 12-Step Program to De-Cluttering. They call it "12 good reasons to unclutter your home and workspace." Reason 1: You will feel empowered... Reason 6: Uncluttering will give you extra space in which to live and work. Reason 10: Uncluttering will help you find things quickly and easily. Spaced throughout the book are charts and questions to help you recognize what are essentials, clutter, junk, and memorabilia, then provide various ways to approach uncluttering. They even list exact steps in clearing clutter and suggest storage solutions. Motivation, time-management, on-site organization, before and after photos, and an uncluttering journal are other program ideas. You cluttered it. Beattie and Stevens show you how to unclutter it. They literally utilize feng shui in their book with appropriate colors, spacing, and balance to make it easy to read the book, study the charts without being overwhelmed by too many words, a psychological equivalent of clutter. This feng shui approach is the only reason I could actually finish a book on uncluttering. Time to unclutter and move on with my life!
