The Fancy Squirrels
Have you ever met squirrels who prefer spa days and sparkling treats to acorns and tree roots?
These are not your usual squirrels.
The Fancy Squirrels is a playful, illustrated story about a stylish family of city-dwelling squirrels whose comfortable, indulgent world is suddenly turned upside down. Told in rhythmic verse and brought to life through painterly designs, this charming tale is filled with humour, personality, and unexpected twists.
Perfect for read-aloud time, The Fancy Squirrels delights young readers with its lively language, engaging rhymes, and whimsical illustrations. The rhythmic text supports early language development, vocabulary growth, listening skills, and phonological awareness, making it an excellent choice for families, classrooms, and literacy-focused learning activities.
Beyond the laughs and adventures, the story invites meaningful discussions about the relationship between humans and animals in urban environments. Why do wild animals sometimes come indoors? What are they looking for? How can people and wildlife coexist more peacefully in shared spaces? Through the experiences of its memorable squirrel characters, the book encourages curiosity, empathy, and critical thinking about the natural world around us.
At its heart, The Fancy Squirrels is a warm and humorous story about discovering what truly matters. As the squirrels navigate unexpected changes, they learn that love, friendship, family, and a sense of belonging are far more valuable than possessions, luxury, or social status.
Part of the Urban Animals series, this book celebrates the curious, funny, and sometimes fancy lives of animals and humans coexisting in urban settings.
