At six in the morning, when he should be sleeping, Tom, a warden in the UK's most successful high-security criminal psychiatric hospital, is called in to work for an urgent transfer of a new patient. This patient doesn't eat, doesn't drink, doesn't sleep, and claims to be a temporary visitor here on Earth.

After a group of protesters intercept his ambulance and try to violently break the patient free from Tom's custody, forcing him to fight back to protect him, Tom quickly realises that this situation is a lot bigger and a lot more significant than he had imagined.

With the patient now in the hospital, yet not officially checked in and nowhere to be found, Tom must race against time to discover his true identity and to rescue him from the corrupt human forces who will go to any length to extract the information they want from him.

Set against the backdrop of a collapsing society in the not-too-distant future in England, the "new normal" consists of daily struggles against a new waterborne virus, constant civil unrest, and a spate of mysterious psychological breakdowns that wreak havoc on the people of Planet Earth.
