About the Author

Taline Dorna is an elementary school teacher, proud mom of 3, wife, and a published author. Her journey started when her son was diagnosed with unilateral retinoblastoma at the young age of 5 months old, a very rare eye cancer. She searched high and low for story books that feature a child with a prosthetic eye and they were few and far between. As a result, she decided to write a children's story book that could be used in a classroom setting as a social story to introduce childhood cancer and unique qualities. Her aim was also to help aide newly diagnosed patients, as well as a way to spread general awareness about retinoblastoma while most importantly, instilling confidence in children alike.

Taline Dorna is also an active member of the Canadian Retinoblastoma Research Advisory Board (CRRAB) since 2017 and along with her family, she has participated in many different CRRAB activities. Taline works around her schedule to participate in CRRAB activities in order to learn more about retinoblastoma, meet other families, keep up to date on research and to make a difference. As an educator, Taline is able to contribute her expertise and skills and apply it to something that will be an instrumental piece in the lives of other RB patients and survivors. As a result, she has gained a better understanding of the cancer her son had and what she can do to apply her skills to help raise awareness.
