The Explorer's Club

By Joshua Shackles

Six friends. One citywide treasure hunt. A secret someone erased from history.

Joplin high-school junior Alex Carter is determined to make up for the mistake that cost his team last year's hunt. This time, the newly named Explorers' Club will stay together, follow the clues, and prove they deserve the research grant.

Then they notice a blank deliberately scraped from an old mining map-and see disgraced treasure hunter Victor Calloway carrying the missing piece.

The official course leads to familiar landmarks. The hidden trail points beneath them: condemned buildings, a six-letter lock, forgotten tunnels, and the buried history of an outlaw who became one of the city's most respectable mining men. Victor has spent eight years chasing whatever waits underground, and he does not intend to let six teenagers reach it first.

As the hunt becomes a dangerous race through Joplin's abandoned mines, Alex must stop charging ahead long enough to trust the five friends beside him. Because the greatest discovery is not the treasure someone concealed-it is the truth others were willing to erase.

The Explorers' Club is a fast, clean young-adult mystery filled with coded clues, local history, underground danger, and a friendship worth protecting.
