The Evil One is the story of Dr. David Richter, a Vanderbilt psychiatric residency program student, and his wife Ryleigh Richter, a Nashville country music singer on the cusp of fame. When Dr. Richter enters the final semester of his residency program, his wife Ryleigh at the same time is signed to a Music Row record deal. A wedge is formed in their marriage by their two different career directions which eventually leads to Ryleigh's decision to leave her husband. As David goes on to pursue his career of helping people with personality disorders, Ryleigh at the same time descends into drug addiction and alcoholism after getting caught up in the world of country music fame. Eventually David realizes that there has been an insidious plot against both himself and his wife to destroy both their marriage and their lives.
