Chilling and captivating!

WowLike John Knowles "A Separate Peace" gone awry - this book is a psychological journey down outsider's lane...A tale of an all-boy's boarding school, a murder and an ending with a surprise big twist - this book has it all. I read it in one day, although I had to keep putting it down, I wanted to prolong the ending. I did not want it to be over. The protagonist, Albert or "stinky" as he is called by his classmates (most of them do not even know why he is called that)is an outsider, always wanting to be on the inside and tries despartly to fit in. Until one time it goes a little bit too far. This theme will follow him throughout life, as we learn in flashbacks throughout the book. He is constantly looking in. Do we feel sorry for Albert or do we find him cold and calculating? You decide. If you enjoyed this book, check out Adam's Fall by Sean Desmond which takes you on a haunting ride through a boy's year at Harvard's Adams House. I hope to read more from Donald Silverman soon!

The Event

A young man is subjected to the unmerciful bullying by his prep school roommate--this is the setting for The Event, one of the ten or twelve best novels I have ever read. The tone and style of this Donald Silverman story is reminiscent of Holden Caufield's misadventures in Cather in the Rye. I found The Event engaging--I felt the main character's pain and frustration as a boy and as a man. As Henry David Thoreau once wrote: Most men live their lives in quiet desperation. Our protagonist can certainly attest to this. I loved this main character and was rooting for him on every page. I give this novel an A+.

Captivating...

Donald Silverman keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with this deep character study. As the story unfolds through flashbacks, you are taken into the mind of Albert Townsend, that you actually feel sorry for him. He's your typical 'plain Joe' bullied in High School and on through adulthood. It's scary how he justifies his actions. The book is very readable and a page turner... I recommend it...

could't put it down!

I read this in one sitting, ignoring my life until the book was finished. Thank goodness I was on vacation! The images were so vivid that I feel I have already seen the movie which is sure to be made. When can I read the sequel?

A must for mystery lovers

Donald Silverman's first book is a winner. He should be enjoyed by both Grisholm and Steven King fans. Don't miss out on this one.
