The EU Response to the Ebola Crisis

The aim of this book is to analyze the EU response towards the Ebola outbreak that developed in spring and summer 2014 in Western Africa. The emphasis is put on the EU external action towards the Ebola crisis in the frame-work of the EU development policy and humanitarian aid provided by the EU while identifying the financial framework, institutional structure, key players and the role of the EU Members. It was a common endeavour of wide range of global actors, national governments and many regional or local stakeholders that led to elimination of the threat called the Ebola Virus Disease. The European Union traditionally emphasized multilateral approach that is in compliance with the EU middle power capacity. The financial mechanisms of the development policy within the EU have two resources, the European Commission and the Member States which eventually contributed cumulatively twice as much as the European Commission to resolving the crisis.
