The Ethiopian Book of Enoch deserves special attention for the unusual information it contains, including the origins of supernatural demons and giants, the rationale behind some angels' ascension to heaven, specifics illuminating the moral necessity of the Great Flood, and a prophecy exposition of the Messiah's thousand-year reign. The work is thought to have been written sometime between 300 and 100 BCE, with the Book of Parables being the most recent component to be written.
With the exception of Beta Israel, it is not a part of the Jewish canon. Only the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church recognize it as canonical; no other Christian organizations do.
Why then was the book of Enoch removed from the Old Testament, and why has no one ever heard of it since the time of the New Testament?
