A magical flute quartet inspired by the mysterious inhabitants of the forest ---- A classical composition in four movements ---- I. At dusk, on the edges of the forest ---- II. Song in the moonlight ---- III. The fairies are dancing ---- IV. The elves and the pixies of the forest ---- PREFACE: The flute quartet "The Enchanted Forest" was written in the first week of January 2016. The piece was born from the need to provide my students with a classic but moderately difficult quartet, a composition that could be both a useful study tool and a pleasant piece to play and listen to. In fact, in the flute repertoire there are many pieces of the genre, but few of them are of intermediate difficulty. So I took the opportunity to write myself a piece suited to the technical skills of a non-professional flutist with a background of three or four years of study only. The style of the piece is typical of nineteenth-century romanticism, with clear references to Schubert and Mendelssohn. The general structure is in four movements, which are concise but at the same time well-articulated. The first movement is in sonata form, in D minor with a second theme in F major. The second movement is in song form (AABA-coda), in B flat major. The third one is a minuet with trio and coda, in D major. The fourth movement is again in sonata form, in D minor with a second theme in A major. The overall sound is full and almost symphonic, although it does not present particular technical difficulties except in the last movement, which requires rather long sections in fast and light double staccato. ----------- INDIVIDUAL PARTS available from the author: inside the full score you will find a code and the instructions for obtain the free pdf parts via email
