Six months after the events that broke the Apollo lie open for the world, former President Raymond Ellington comes home to Rome, Georgia, to find his roots - and finds something he was never supposed to know.

A fisherman named Tommy Pruitt hauls a rusted iron box out of the Coosa River. Inside is a steel disc etched with one word: Subterra. The disc pulses in the hand. It has been waiting in the river for someone from the right bloodline to find it.

What follows leads Ellington and a small group of Rome locals underground - literally - into a cave system running seventy miles from Rome to Chattanooga, where thirty thousand people have been living in covenant with the Ellington family since 1648. A covenant the Tennessee Valley Authority has been slowly breaking for sixty years, one dam at a time.

The Hidden Vein is a story about what we owe the things we promised to protect, and about the difference between the truth that changes a nation and the truth that has been quietly waiting, under the hills, for someone to come home and honor a word given by a six-year-old boy four centuries ago.
