Population aging is a topic that is increasingly being thought about and discussed with a view to guaranteeing quality of life and well-being for this contingent of citizens who often live with a reduction in their functional capacities and require special care. There has been an increase in demand for long-stay institutions for the elderly as a result of changes in family arrangements and the high incidence of falls in the bedroom and bathroom due to the fragile state of health that many institutionalized elderly people have. In this context, the aim of this book is to address issues such as national and international accessibility standards, universal design, ergonomics and functional capacity, and to present recommended parameters for the configuration of the elderly person's bedroom and bathroom, in order to guarantee safety and autonomy for the user in their daily activities. It is hoped that this book will help to disseminate information on the subject, which is currently little known because it is not widely disseminated, and can guide architects and interior designers in designing friendly and safe spaces.
