In 1938 Wisconsin, when twelve-year-old Franny's father loses his job as a hired hand and has to go looking for work, the family members doubt their self-reliance as they face again the hard times they had hoped were gone for good.
The Elderberry Thicket is a great book that really can keep you reading late into the night. The story is about a girl who is growing up in Wisconsin in the late 1930's. She and her mother and her siblings have to learn to live without there father when he is suddenly fired from his job and has to move out west to look for employment. I would recommend this book to people who are interested in history and realistic fiction.
