On Thursday, 1 July 2017, the incumbent President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, added another controversial chapter to the country's history. In the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington D.C., the American head of state announced the withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement (Office of the Press Secretary, 2017, whitehouse.gov). After initially speaking about his achievements as president, Trump went on to focus primarily on the unfairness of the agreement for his country. The former climate change denier then repeatedly attacked the People's Republic of China, which he claimed was gaining immense advantages at the expense of the Americans under the terms of the agreement (Grandoni, 2017, WashingtonPost).
