Nita's father and brother weren't dead, but technically, they weren't alive either. Amelia was still screaming when the Nomad station wagon plowed to a stop in the deep yellow sand. Two large moons hovered near the horizon in front of them as the sun went down on the mountains behind. To get back to Joules' home planet, Gafcon-49, they would have to figure out how to fix the Jump Starter. Blackie didn't want to alarm the others, but he suspected they were being followed. Nita was shocked to discover she had been misled about the death of her father and brother, and she intended to do something about it. Mark, Blackie, Wayne, Joules, and Amelia insisted they were going with her.
