Together with her brother Malcolm and former test subject Zahra (Echo-2), Lila fights against Phillips and his corporate backers. As she becomes the superhero "Echo," Lila defines her powers through choice and autonomy, in direct philosophical contrast to Phillips' vision of controlled evolution. The conflict escalates when Phillips, dependent on the Symphony serum, transforms into "Static" - a being capable of extending his consciousness into electronic systems worldwide. The final confrontation isn't won through physical battle but through consciousness intervention, resulting in an unexpected outcome where Static achieves neither complete technological transcendence nor biological limitation, but a novel hybrid state. At its core, the story explores profound themes about human enhancement, identity, and autonomy. It asks whether technology should enhance humanity while preserving its essence, or whether humanity should transcend its biological limitations entirely. Through Lila's character, the story champions collaborative evolution that preserves individual identity over controlled transcendence that sacrifices autonomy.
