Mother Earth is not a happy woman.

It would be a shame to think this book is just about pollution and overcrowding and such. It reaches far beyond those typical topics and presents a vast array of different scenarios concerning our (apparently) never ending misuse of the paradise we have been given. The writers of these stories come from hugely different backgrounds - some are well known for their horror writing, some are usually sci-fi writers. But there are no stories that you will say "Oh, not another planet warming story." Every one of these will make you stop and think about just how plausible these scenarios are. It is NOT an "End of the World" collection, but rather a "You better think harder right now."

I always picture the ways that the earth could smother us, just like we do to her. This book is a collection of different stories about how it could. Very nice if you are a "thinker".

A tasty compilation of Mother Nature?s revenge

Compiled in 1994, most of these stories deal with the effects of pollution; acid rain, poisoned seas and whatnot. I would have liked to see a little more earthquake and perhaps something fungal, but this is an excellent collection of lovely bedtime stories for those who don't dream....My Copsa Micas by Dan Simmons - A story of reckless pollution and disturbing dreams.Harvest by Norman Partridge - Cancer destroys a man's family and his sanity as well.Toxic Wastrels by Poppy Z. Brite - The two adult wastrel children of a town's major polluter finally suffer a poetic justice.
