Brilliant Historical Fiction/Romance

This book is the first in a series although stands alone as well. It is a brilliantly depicted historical fiction novel set in the period just prior to the Russian Revolution. The author is a decendent of the family on which the story is based - A prominent Jewish family with a strong political base in Kiev. The primary character is a strong and admirable woman. The descriptions, geography and events are all well described. The author is of Jeffrey Archer caliber.
