This entertaining yet serious book examines the probability of apocalyptic scenarios the world could face in the future. Exploring all types of disasters, including natural crises like flooding,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book provides a fairly comprehensive survey by which "The End of the World" (or at least of human civilization) might likely come about. Various scenarios, some of which most people have probably never heard of, are presented in summary - overview form. Each is assigned a three digit ranking for how likely the scenario is to come about, how much damage would result, and what the level of fear associated with the particular situation. The book seems to be written from an objective, scientific perspective, with little political or cultural agendas unnecessarily biasing the writing. And this makes the book all the more valuable, and terrifying. The most likely mechanisms for our doom are both subtle and very much in progress now, even though the book was written around 2004 or 2005. For instance, future wars are likely to be fought over water and fertile land as they are now for oil or habitable land. And our current wasteful farming and eating habits are poisoning the environment, depleting valuable resources, and creating future misery. If you want to have some idea of how the Tribulations will unfold, (if you care to believe in such things), this book should make them quite plain to most intelligent readers. This book should be required reading for all citizens of the 21st Century.
