The Distant Shore

In 1941 a Georgia Civil War veteran decides to undertake his last journey home. He does so, against obstinate family opposition and severe physical disability. He travels on foot towards Jonesboro, sensing the familiar sandy surfaces of unchanged roads grating beneath his stumbling feet. He sees the red earth around him and breathes the dusty warmth of a lazy summer's evening in the rural south. As he walks, he remembers how it was when both he and his world were young. His beloved south before the Civil War and his shattering part in that terrible conflict. How he lost himself, only to be rescued by the woman who shared his life, giving him love, family, and a reason to become great in his world, all speak to his heart as he walks through the red hills toward the shattered hulk of his great mansion, Glencarren, his home, where all his memories exist alive, unchanged and are expecting him.
