On January 29, 1975, Charles McCullar traveled from Virginia to Eugene, Oregon to meet a female classmate for a weekend skiing trip. While his friend attended college classes, Charles ventured 126 miles to Crater Lake National Park to capture stunning photographs of the snow-covered lake. Charles was seen at the Dry Creek Store on Route 138 five hours after he began his trip. He was last seen near Stump Lake after hitching a ride on a logging truck. McCullar was scheduled to return to the apartment by January 31, 1975. When Charles failed to return, his friend contacted authorities. At the time of his disappearance, Oregon had experienced an extreme snow season with over ninety inches of snow covering the park. A massive search for Charles was conducted over the following weeks. The remains of Charles McCullar were discovered by Park Rangers near Bybee Creek eighteen months after his disappearance. Like many disappearances in National Parks, reports of murder and paranormal activities began. The investigative research in this book reviews the physical evidence and interprets the physical evidence found with Charles McCullar's remains, along with interviews with people who have knowledge of the case.
