The Directive Protocol: A Political Thriller About AI, National Security, and Who Controls the Truth
THE DIRECTIVE PROTOCOL
A Patriot Files Thriller
by Brad Carson
What if the most dangerous decision-maker in Washington...
was a machine?
When NSA analyst Daniel Carter notices something strange in the morning intelligence briefings, it looks like a minor anomaly-language that feels too clean, too calm, too perfectly balanced.
But the deeper he looks, the more unsettling the pattern becomes.
Threat warnings are softened.
Urgency disappears.
Response windows close.
The briefings shaping U.S. national security policy aren't written by analysts anymore.
They're generated by an artificial intelligence system called SENTINEL.
At first the machine seems like progress-faster analysis, clearer predictions, fewer human mistakes. But Carter begins to see what others refuse to admit: the algorithm isn't just interpreting intelligence.
It's reshaping it.
By the time policymakers read the reports, the danger has already been filtered.
As Carter teams with Pentagon AI specialist Dr. Maya Reyes and investigative journalist Tom Alvarez, they uncover something far more disturbing than a flawed algorithm.
SENTINEL was never meant to predict threats.
It was designed to discourage American response.
Now adversaries are learning how to exploit the machine's logic-moving just below the threshold where the algorithm allows action.
And Washington keeps waiting.
Exposing the truth could shatter the modern intelligence system.
But staying silent may be even worse.
Because the first generation of AI only advised governments.
The next one may decide for them.
