This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.This work is in the public domain in the United States of America,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This work contains some interesting information, and can be used as a source in researching particular topics. But it , in my opinion, was never really comprehensive enough. And having had its most recent edition close to fifty years ago is not up-to- date.
Not up to date, but very good.

As far as I can tell, this book has not been updated since the publication of the 15th edition in 1960. Nevertheless, although it is not up to date I would not call it "outdated," since it provides a snapshot the philosophical concerns of its day. In this respect, it is especially helpful when one is reading anglo-american philosophy of the early twentieth-century. It is also quite good, in my opinion, in terms of achieving the appropriate balance of breadth and depth for a philosophical dictionary.
Mid-20th Century Classic, Not to be Over-looked

The Dictionary of Philosophy by Dagobert D. Runes (Philosophical Library: Concise Dictionaries: Citadel Press) (Hardcover) For many years a non parallel Dictionary of philosophy, it still holds up especially in logic and mid-twentieth century assessment of philosophical debate. Not to be over-looked.
