"A true account, supplemented by 40 photographs, of a pilot's life while he was helping to deliver bombs, gasoline and other vital supplies from India to China - over the dangerous Himalayan Mountains... This description may be from another edition of this product.
After some backstory, most of the book is a journal that the author kept while flying (along with notes from today). This is not part of the war that I knew anything about, and so it was interesting to get some information, especially reading a journal that was written at the time by someone who was there (as opposed to a history written later by a historian). As far as I can tell the planes were crappy (supposedly they only got a plane once every other branch of the military had rejected it), the conditions were different than anything experienced by these pilots before (and quite hazardous), and then there were the Japanese. The most astonishing thing for me was how many people died and crashed doing these runs (since they were supposedly just shipping supplies not combat). All in all it's a quick read but fascinating. I enjoyed it.
