this was my first joe Abercrombie book!

i loved this story set in a alternate history of europe a group of outcasts werewolf, necromancer,pirate, vampire, etc escorts the heir to the city of troy a thief to her throne

Going through Hell? You need The Devils on your side

Admittedly, I’m generous with five star ratings. I rate a book based on personal enjoyment, an appreciation for the authors imagination, the enormous time it took to make it all come to life, whether I can envision the scenes, what the characters look and sound like, and whether or not I find myself skimming or reading every word. I read every word of this novel and had a blast doing so. This was my first Joe Abercrombie read and I LOVED IT! I loved the notion of a ragtag group of societal outcasts being elevated and set up in the end as those whose character served as an example to which people have a lot to learn. I loved the humor. The characters were appealing. Sunny was adorable. Brother Diaz was what I expected and I loved the arc. My heart went out to Vigga in the end. The church leadership including that of the Savior, was a surprising, irreverent, and welcome iteration though their character bore no difference to the patriarchy. If novels were punk rock this would fit the bill. I look forward to the next one.
