Seventy year old Cyrus Pendleton and his daughter, Ruby, weren't bothering anyone. They just wanted to live a peaceful life on the small parcel of land that they owned. But Ruterford Stark had other ideas. He had been buying, stealing, and any other way he could manage, up all the land in the area. Most of the people had given in to him, because of fear, and given up their land, except Cyrus. He wouldn't give in to the threats or demands. So Stark hired a "man killer" to run Cyrus and Ruby off the land, claiming that he in fact owed it. Vinton Stroud, the man killer Stark hired to get Cyrus off the land, rides on to the Pendleton ranch and calls Cyrus out, forcing the old man into a gunfight. Of course Cyrus is killed, leaving Ruby distraught, and facing the threat from Stroud that he will be back in a week to kill her if she doesn't leave the land. Meanwhile Jim Sutter comes home to Holiday. He wants to forget. Forget the man that he had to kill. Jim is also a man hunter. But unlike Stroud, he brings criminals in to face justice. He had to shoot the last one, or be killed himself, and this is just not setting right with him. The Marshall of Holiday, Frank Glover, is also Jim's uncle, and has taught him all that he knows. And with this instilled in Jim a very strong sense of justice. Through the years Jim has been reading about Stroud in dime novels, and he has become somewhat of a hero to him. That was until now. Now upon hearing what is happening with the Pendleton's, and having seen for himself what Stroud is capable of, he has made it his business to protect Ruby. And because of that, he has now become a special target of Vinton Stroud. THE DEVIL'S PEACEMAKER is a journey though the mind of a serial killer. And what a journey it is. I was completely in awe at the way that Mr. Howard managed to actually bring you into this monsters mind, and emotions. The story is heartbreaking, terrifying, and suspenseful. I was compelled to keep reading, as I had to find out what this monster was going to do next. Mr. Howard is a genus at bringing you into the thoughts that runs through the bizarre mind of a totally insane individual. Insane, or just plain evil? I could not make up my mind. Perhaps, a little of both. Either way, Mr. Howard has done a fantastic job of taking you through the mind of a serial killer. A journey that is both fascinating, and terrifying. You have got to pick up a copy of THE DEVIL'S PEACEMAKER. It is one journey that you cannot miss. Mr. Howard is a genius with the written word, and THE DEVIL'S PEACEMAKER testifies to that fact. You will not be sorry when you do.
