The illustrations in this book could stand alone. My kids and I love all the comical details and the enigmatic artistic style. We spend as much time admiring the illustrations as we do reading the story. The story holds its own against the magnificent scenery and provides a clever tale that's sure to delight young and old. My highest recommendations for this book.

This book is absolutely hilarious! There are so many fun and different creatures in nearly every picture that it's almost like an I Spy book. I can't believe the illustrator could come up with so many unusual devils to populate the pages. And the story is fabulous. I particularly love his use of phrases like, "It's better the devil you know than the devil you don't." This is a great, great book. I have to read it, and Hale's book "Yellowbelly and Plum Go to School", to my son every day. Good thing I enjoy them too!

My whole family loved this book. The pictures are amazing. You can look at them for hours and keep discovering new things. The story is fun and light. I hope Nate Hale writes and illustrates a lot more books!

We purchased this book because it was a staff pick at Fountain Books in Richmond, Virginia. They never steer us wrong! The adorable little devil is full of mischief and personality, and Miss Phisto's renovations to the house kept us all rapt. We plan to give copies to friends' little devils this Christmas!
