Talphi's task is straightforward. Make a tower and erase his debt. The task means Talphi hasn't escaped the King's ambitions, but at least he's not indentured to the Kingdom. He just needs to keep a low profile and get the job done. However, there are more problems in swampy Coventree than the erection of the tower. The local noble has more at stake than the commoners Talphi is accustom to. The tower is just the latest problem. Simply keeping his head down won't be enough to save Talphi from ignorance and no one is going to volunteer their intentions. The risk of quick debt relief will cost him dearly. Talphi will find himself deeper in the swamp that he didn't wish to enter.
