The Descendents: The Next Generations

The Heritage of the Campbell, McLean, McNeill, and Ray families' dates back to the mid 1700's in the Eastern portion of Cumberland County, NC. In the 1850's a portion of Cumberland County became Harnett County. While a portion of the families remained in Cumberland, the majority became residents of Harnett County. According to the census records of 1870, (which is the first year African Americans were counted) most of our families were in Stewarts Creek of Harnett County and some were in Carvers Creek in Cumberland County. The township were right next to each other. The families were soon united with other families to extend our tree. The extended branches are Arnold, Bronson, Byrd, Cameron, Chance, Clark, Colvin, Covington, Cox, Cromedy, Day, Dobbins, Frederick, Fyre, Gilmore, Massey, Mathews, McClinnahan, McKethan, McDougald, McPhatter, McRae, Monk, Moore, Nicholson, Owens, Parker, Pipkin, Purcell, Ross, Ryals, Scurlock, Speed, Utley, Walker, Watson, and Word.
